NSPCC annual review & report

An annual review and report for the NSPCC that was delivered digitally for the first time. The review took the form of a highly accessible website containing a series of videos, data visualisations and illustrations.

Objective

Develop an annual review and report for the NSPCC that reflected a year of change for the brand. 2009 had seen the arrival of a new chief executive who had a distinctive vision of what the organisation should be and how it should work. For this reason, the brand needed the communication to demonstrate that the NSPCC is an ambitious, contemporary organisation, reaching out to society in new ways.

Solution

The NSPCC’s annual review and report was delivered digitally for the first time. Their message was communicated through a combination of engaging videos, data visualisations and bespoke illustrations.

Technically, the AAA compliant site delivered an uncompromised experience to all types of users. We devised the information architecture for the site and then worked closely with the NSPCC’s in-house design team in order to ensure that their ideas translated perfectly to a digital environment. Every page was then hand-coded to ensure the site was as accessible and search engine friendly as possible.

To avoid having to make design compromises, wherever Flash or Javascript was required we created alternate content so that users could access the site though all types of devices, including screen readers. A bespoke and accessible video player was used to display the video content, all of which was supported by video transcripts and optional closed captions.

Success

Using a digital format meant that the review and report could be distributed and shared much more widely than was previously the case. It enabled greater engagement, directing visitors to other NSPCC content and properties, and was more measurable and cost-effective.

  • “Ragged Edge’s professionalism, approachability and strong technical know-how ensured that our first ever digital annual report was a great success. Their excellent attention to detail, especially in relation to SEO and accessibilty, meant the site exceeded our expectations and helped our message reach its broadest possible audience.”
